Orthodontic assistance

Most people think braces are all about teeth. While it is true that orthodontics is meant to move your teeth into proper position, there's more to it than that. To safely move your teeth with braces, you need healthy and stable gums.

For this reason, it's vital to have your periodontal health evaluated prior to, during and after getting braces. If you have periodontitis, moving your teeth with braces will only aggravate things.

Conversely, there is also a risk of periodontal disease if you don't receive orthodontic treatment. Malocclusion and crooked teeth can contribute to periodontal disease. In these circumstances, your teeth and gums are harder to clean and become breeding grounds for bacteria. Poor oral hygiene, combined with these traits, can contribute to the development of periodontitis.

So, periodontics and orthodontics have a very intertwined relationship. On the one hand, you shouldn't get braces if you show signs of periodontitis, while on the other hand, orthodontics can help prevent the possibility of developing periodontitis.

We assist with the following orthodontic procedures:

Exposure of impacted teeth: An impacted tooth is a tooth that is stuck and cannot erupt in order to function properly. Patients frequently develop impacted tooth problems with wisdom teeth. The surgery to expose an impacted tooth is a very straightforward surgical procedure. We perform this procedure in the office with a local anaesthetic.

Periodontally assisted osteogenic orthodontics (PAOO): Periodontally accelerated osteogenic orthodontics is a relatively new procedure designed to minimize the time taken for orthodontic treatment. We work alongside your orthodontist to perform decortication of the bone and place bone grafts for rapid orthodontic treatment.
